What is the technology behind Solid Cushion Tire?
Nu-Air Solid Cushion Tires are based on Semi-Pneumatic Technology by McLaren. This design is primarily air-cells seated around the radius of the tire. They are situated deep in the rubber, aligned and carefully shaped (see illustration) to afford a cushioning effect similar to that of ordinary pneumatic tires. The difference to traditional tires is these air pockets are situated too deep to be penetrated by sharp debris on the work surface. As a second line of defence each cell is is isolated and individual, so even if one cell is penetrated (this is extremely unlikely!), the incursion will not have the same impact as on a traditional, ‘single’ cellular tire – a flat. Any damage is contained, and work continues as normal. This produces a flat-proof tire.
Pneumatic Tire Scenario
Imagine if there’s a project that has limited space/access and only one vehicle at a time can operate on the worksite. All the foundations for a new construction have been completed, and all the tradesmen are ready for kick-off. A telehandler has been transported some distance to unload the materials as they arrive and to keep the various trades supplied with what they need to efficiently complete the project within the time-frame agreed. Things are going well until the ‘handler runs over some debris and gets a flat…
The result is down-time. Trades cannot work without a constant supply of the materials they need. SO – there are firms that will acquire the replacement tire needed, rush to the site and fit it conveniently. Well – convenience costs, and for the cost of pneumatic flat down-time, the machine could have been fitted with Nu-Air Solid Cushions that would have provided reliability on this job, and for many future projects, too.
Integrity and Stability
Stability is a vital factor when loads have to be maneuvering loads at any height. Nu-Air Solid Cushion Tires’ flat-proof architecture balance cushioning with the firm ground response for maximum stability. Another major requirement is integrity – the best possible ground contact. This necessity is best illustrated with machines that rely on rear-wheel steering, such as forklifts. Again, McLaren’s engineering and tread design maximize these needs.
