Telehandler Tires
Telehandlers, short for telescopic handlers, have become an indispensable piece of equipment for industry and agriculture. Although these vehicles somewhat look like forklifts, they possess the qualities of a crane. The main feature of the machine is its telescopic boom equipped with one among many possible attachments, which can be extended upwards and forwards from the telehandler.
The first telehandler models were developed by Matbro, in the town of Horley, UK. This first machine was a re-design of their cross country forestry forklifts and had a front section mounted boom with the cab was situated at the back of the vehicle. This design, however, underwent solid changes and gave way to the more popular nowadays side cab and boom mounted at the rear side of the vehicle.
Where forklifts struggle moving loads, telehandlers step in to help. The most common application for them in industry is moving various loads on pallet forks. It is useful to have such vehicle, because it can directly place cargo on rooftops, which is a job that would otherwise take a crane to deal with. Buckets and bucket grabs are most commonly seen on telehandlers involved in agriculture work.
The main issue for telehandlers is stability. The boom serves as a lever as it raises and extends bearing a load. Counterweights do remedy this a little, but more is needed to guarantee safe and efficient work. Having top quality telehandler tires is very important, as it is the tires that contribute a good deal to stability. At McLaren Industries we recognize the challenges that modern telehandlers face in their work and have developed the best tire solutions currently present on the market.
What makes McLaren’s telehandler tires so special is the Semi-Pneumatic TechnologyTM developed and implemented by the company. In essence this solid cushion tire design provides puncture resistance and a comfortable ride. The design features numerous relief holes along with three layers of specially formulated rubber compound. This gives telehandler tires an edge in operations, as the risk of flats is minimized and contributes to safer work with any of the following tire series:
- Nu-Air® Dirt Terrain (DT) Tires – telehandlers are used more and more and so the solutions for them need to be constantly improved to ensure smooth work. That is exactly what the DT series aim for. They are versatile enough and rank as one of the most popular telehandler tires. By equipping a machine with them, you are bound to receive stability and smooth ride. As these are cushioned telehandler tires, which also cannot be punctured, work with them is safe and highly productive. They are versatile enough to be used on both off-road and hard surfaces, with the main benefit of minimizing the risk of flats retained in both cases. Superb traction is guaranteed for work on sand, ground, dirt, mud, mining fields and quarry sites. The DT line fits sizes 12×16.5, 13×24 and 14×24.
- Nu-Air® All Terrain (AT) Tires – wouldn’t it be wonderful to have your telehandler run smoothly on both hard surfaces and off-road sites? That is now possible all thanks to McLaren’s AT series telehandler tires. These cushioned tires not only contribute to a stable ride, but are also flat-proof, meaning that there is no risk of puncture. There is no other more practical choice when it comes to work on abrasive surface, such as cement, asphalt and concrete, although it performs good on off-road terrains as well. The superb traction is largely a result of the wide footprint design, which enables more tire-to-surface contact and leads to reduced pressure. This translates to more productive work and extended tire life. The AT telehandler tires are designed to fit sizes 12×16.5, 13×24 and 14×24.
